The pious land of village Kullada near Bhanjanagar is the seat of Goddess Byaghra Devi. It is believed that with the blessings of the goddess, Kabi Samrat Upendra Bhanja attained the Siddhi in Rama taraka mantra and later became the king of poets (kabi Samrat).

The goddess has a tribal origin and was previously worshipped on the top was previously worshipped on the presiding deity of the kanha king of Kullada. The king of Ghumusara, Pratap bhanja defeated the killadah and eventually the devotee of the goddess and worshipped her as Istadevi. The present temple at the foot hill was erected by the king Dhananjaya Bhanja in the later period in which the eight handed goddess sitting on a tiger is worshipped. The devotees visit the temple in large number during every samkranti, Tuesday, and in Dasahara. But during dola purnima the temple is chiefly visited by a large influx of the tribal’s of the neighboring areas. Another main festival of the goddess is the 21 days Chaitra festival where the goddess Byaghra Devi and Devi Thakurani is worshipped.
