Chandragiri is known as Tibet of Odisha. The presence of Buddhist Tampa with flags fluttering from roof top spells an entirely different world. A drive of few kilometers to the south of Taptapanil winding through the narrow hilly road amidst the sal forest leads to Chandragiri.
The small scope of land endowed with natural beauty and best known for the Tibetan settlements and Buddhist culture since decades. The Tibetans migrated from their own land as home war continued after the Chinese invasion in 1957. They were allotted plots in this place by the Government of Odisha as per the norms of migrate settlement. Since then that are here with family and friends.
Their hard labour has brought up an agrarian look to the jungle and succeeded to convert the hard soil to soft and cultivate for maize, bazaar, ragi and rice crops. They also have practiced their traditional occupation that is weaving carpets, sweaters and woolen clothes. The local market of Brahmapur, Koraput and other parts of Orissa has a great support for their business promotion and livelihood. The place is also like an open book to of faring opportunity to observe Buddhism and its followers.
