Nirmaljhar

Nirmaljhar derives its name from two words viz.  Nirmala meaning pure and jhara meaning stream. The presence of a transparent perennial stream flowing with its pure water through the Badaghati Mountain of the eastern Ghat. It has channeled to a couple of swimming pools at the foot step of lard Vishnu temple at Khallikote has earmed the name for the spot. The place is the seat for a group of temples including Jagannath temple, Vimala temple Radhakrishna temple, Niakanthe swara temple, Surya Narayan temple and Ganesha temple within one enclosure. Goddess vimala is the presiding deity of the place. These temples were built by Balunkeswars Maharaja, the king of khallokote estate in 1700A.D.

The entire temple has remarkable carvings on bots walls. The Radhakrishna temple has on both the sides of its doorjamb beautifully carved sculptures of Draupadi’s vastraharana and Sri Krishna’s Giri govardhan dharana. The beautifully carved works in Snana mandapa, Magara mandapa and Dola mandapa are quite attractive. The Nilakhantheswara temple has beautiful sculptures of Parvati, Kartikeya, Ganesha, Mithuna figures in various poses on its walls. The kundas present in premises of Nirmalajhara are main attraction for visitors. Both in the simmering summer in those kundas are very pleasant and refreshing.
